Community outreach and extension activities

I have founded a non-profit organization called Biodiversity Conservation and Research Trust (BCRT) in India and served as a Founder-Director (2001-present) to protect and preserve forest ecosystems. This organization is located at Anuganalu village, Hassan, Karnataka State which is directly located in one of the world biodiversity hotspots in India. Under my supervision, BCRT had successfully converted barren rocky area into forest ecosystem within five years using native tree species. BCRT work has been recognized as a model system to sustain forest ecosystem for future generation in India. I have been associated with several local farmers/students/teachers/scientists to implement environmental related projects in India.

BCRT Projects at http://www.bcrt.org

  • Afforestation: converted barren rocky area into forest ecosystem within five years
  • Medicinal plants conservation: documented and propagated hundreds of endangered medicinal plants
  • Rain hills conservation: rejuvenating forest on deforested rain hills through afforestation
  • Plant propagation nursery: collected seeds from native trees and medicinal plants, and propagated them a nursery for afforestation and conservation purpose
  • Birds habitat conservation: native habitat has been restored to protect birds
  • Tree-based farming: farmers were encouraged to adopt tree based farming in their fields to protect biodiversity and enhance crop productivity.
  • Ecological and agricultural workshops: awareness programs conducted on environmental and sustainable agricultural practices to local farmers, students and researchers.
